Learn More About Books at a Glance ♦
Hi, I’m Fred Zaspel, editor at Books at a Glance. If you are anything at all like me, books are a huge part of your life. King Solomon famously said that of the making of many books there is no end – but somehow we are okay with that. What a wonderful medium of communication and learning books are! But there is the frustration of keeping up. And there is the frustration of selection – knowing which books to buy next. Books at a Glance was created to help with just these frustrations. Our staff keeps up with all the newest and best in Christian publishing in order to keep our members informed and up to date. Much more than a book review service, we summarize the contents and thought of each book, so that you can digest a book in minutes. Each summary is an accurate and comprehensive yet brief and concise presentation of the entire book, chapter by chapter, delivered directly to your computer, iPad, or cell phone every week. And in just minutes you will become acquainted with the contents and arguments of each new book. Books at a Glance distinguishes itself as a book summary service that focuses on the newest and the best of Christian publications. Along with these summaries we also provide: book reviews, author interviews, author blogs, etc. In all, we trust this will be a site of real value for you. Check us out. We are excited about our work, and I think you will be too. Blessings, Fred Zaspel

.
The Arminian controversies of the 18th century were a series of exchanges between evangelical leaders of the Evangelical Revival or Great Awakening. The major issues were the doctrines of predestination and free will, justification, and sanctification. Men such as George Whitefield James Hervey, William Romaine, and Augustu […] Continue Reading

THE DEATH OF THE MESSIAH AND THE BIRTH OF THE NEW COVENANT: A (NOT SO) NEW MODEL OF THE ATONEMENT, by Michael J. GormanTHE DEATH OF THE MESSIAH AND THE BIRTH OF THE NEW COVENANT: A (NOT SO) NEW MODEL OF THE ATONEMENT, by Michael J. Gorman
.
The question becomes whether in the new-covenant there also is an element which is foundational? The danger in Gorman’s proposal is not so much what he affirms, but in what he denies. The substitutionary nature and mechanics of the atonement seem to be at the very heart of what the atonement means. Not only is forgive […] Continue Reading

.
Why study the Puritans? In the opinion of some, we have come such a long way since the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. What could the Puritans possibly teach us? The answer, according to J. I. Packer, is maturity. “We are spiritual dwarfs. The Puritans, by contrast, as a body were giants. They were great souls se […] Continue Reading

Carl S. TruemanLUTHER ON THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: CROSS AND FREEDOM, by Carl R. Trueman
.
He was a very human figure, deeply flawed in many ways. Bull-headed, passionate, a man of emotional extremes, such that today we might perhaps diagnose him as something of a depressive. He was a faithful husband and loving father. A fine preacher. A courageous leader. A good churchman. A sinner saved by grace who knew that […] Continue Reading

Training for ministry should focus on the actual experiences and skills necessary for pastors: evangelism, counseling, preaching, etc. Some of these skills require academic knowledge, and students should get that — in a classroom, online, or wherever it is best available.
