Dean Bertch – April 8, 2016

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to pass along a quick update, particularly concerning my upcoming schedule  A lot of my time the past couple weeks has been focused on preparing for upcoming modules and following up on contacts concerning church partnerships.

Tomorrow (Saturday, April 9) I will be driving to Kentucky.  Josh, our son, who has been home from Boyce College on spring break, will be traveling with me.  I will be able to attend his church on Sunday and then be in Louisville next week for the Together for the Gospel (T4G) Conference.   If you’re going to be at T4G, please stop by the booth to say “Hi.”  I will be there most of the time.

Please pray for our time at T4G.  We (Reaching & Teaching International Ministries) will have a booth set up at the conference.  Our hope and prayer is that we will be able to make contact with folks whose churches might consider partnering with us.  As you probably know, we are always looking for more churches who will provide teachers so that we can open up more pastoral and leadership training locations.

Following T4G, I will have the privilege of speaking at Compass Point Church in Mechanicsburg (PA) on April 17 and then at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Swartz Creek (MI) on April 24.

UPCOMING TEACHING TRIPS

I have three teaching trips scheduled between now and the end of May:

Macas, Ecuador.  On Tuesday, April 26, I will fly to Quito, Ecuador, to meet up with our Reaching & Teaching missionary, Cody Whittaker.  On Wednesday, he and I will drive to Macas, which is approximately a six-hour drive.  Macas is located on the edge of The Oriente, the jungle on the Eastern side of the country.  We will teach the first module of our training program (focusing on Old Testament Survey and Bible Intake) from Thursday through Monday.  We will return to Quito Tuesday, and I should be back home by mid-dayWednesday.

Otavalo, Ecuador.  Pastor Ed Fleming and I will return to Otavalo for the fourth module in the training program.  We will be teaching on the subject of church history and leading the spiritual discipline of Bible meditation.  We are excited for the opportunity to continue working with the Quichua pastors and leaders there in Northern Ecuador.  In addition to the pastoral training sessions in the morning, we will also be teaching in the evenings at the Iglesia Bautista Canaan in Otavalo.

Gotera, El Salvador.  After leaving Otavalo, I will be flying from Quito to El Salvador to participate in the initial module in the city of Gotera.  Gotera is located about 2½ hours east of the capital of San Salvador.  The pastor in Gotera (Pastor Omar) has planted eight churches in the area.  The purpose of this site is to help train pastors for these sites, as well as to raise up more pastors for additional church plants.

So, the months of April and May will be extremely busy.  Please pray for spiritual focus and good time management during this time.  Also, with my traveling so much, please pray for my family.  During the May trips, Kathy, Josh, and Amanda (and Chip, our dog) are planning a trip to Florida to visit Kathy’s parents.  Please pray for them as well.

SUPPORT-RAISING UPDATE

My support has risen to approximately 70% of the needed amount.  Please pray for additional partners.  My budget was based upon making six to nine international teaching trips during 2016.  As of the end of May, I will have made six.  I’m thinking I might exceed the estimate.  While I am thrilled for these opportunities, the financial cost of ministry increases with each trip.  Please let me know if you know of people with whom I can share the vision of this ministry.

A Commitment to Good Communication – Your role as a partner in this ministry demands that I keep you regularly informed about what the Lord is doing so that you can better pray for and rejoice with us.

A Commitment to Good Stewardship – Your financial commitment is significant, both for you and for those to whom we are ministering. I promise to steward your resources well and to give myself wholeheartedly to the work of the gospel through Reaching & Teaching.

A Commitment to YOU – You can count on my commitment to you as a valued partner in the work of the gospel. I am eager to hear from you – your personal prayer requests – so that we can move forward together in the service of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
