Well, the first trip of 2017 starts tomorrow, as we head back to Otavalo, Ecuador. I have the privilege of being joined by two of Oakwood’s pastors, Don Foose and Ed Fleming. This will be the third trip to Otavalo for both of them.
This is the sixth in our nine-module training program. The focus of this module is on evangelism, missions, and church planting. As is usually the case in Otavalo, we will be providing teaching during the evenings (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) for the folks of Iglesia Bautista Canaan, the host church in Otavalo. This trip, we will be teaching through the book of Philippians.
In addition, Pastor Don will be preaching in the Sunday morning service and Pastor Ed will be preaching in their Tuesday evening service.
As usual, we ask you to pray for our travel.
- Tomorrow, we are scheduled to fly out of Reagan International in Washington DC. After a layover in Miami, we are scheduled to arrive in Quito around 10:15. We’ll need to pass through immigration, baggage claim, and customs, and then make the 90-minute trip up to Otavalo. I’m guessing we should arrive between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
- Next Friday, we fly out of Quito at midnight. Again, we have a layover in Miami, and we should be back at Reagan International by noon.
Please pray for our teaching sessions. We are eager to connect again with the attendees of our training. Pray that this is an extremely profitable time of teaching, impacting their ministry in Northern Ecuador for years to come.
Pray for Bryan Rubio, our interpreter. Bryan is from Quito. He interpreted for us back in September and did a superb job.
Pray for our health. While there are no specific health concerns in Otavalo (no malaria, no yellow fever, etc.), we will be at 9,000 feet above sea level. When in Otavalo, stairs are not our friends.
Please pray for our families. Often, it’s when we are on these trips that “things happen” back at home. In our families, I believe it’s often easier on those of us who travel than those who remain at home.
I am eager to provide a report after returning home.
