Dean Bertch Mission Reports

Dean Bertsch – Mission Report – Sept 2016

Dean Bertsch Missions-intro

Hi Everyone.

I wanted to pass along an update before leaving for Ecuador tomorrow.

This past week, we attended the Ocean City Bible Conference.  Once again, it was a terrific conference.  The messages were excellent and the fellowship was wonderful.

We had the opportunity to renew a number of friendships and to make some new ones – both personally and ministry-related.  We had a number of opportunities to explain who Reaching & Teaching is and what we do.  We also had some good conversations regarding potential church partnerships for prospective training sites.

Tomorrow (Saturday) we will be leaving for Otavalo, Ecuador.  Otavalo is a beautiful city, nestled in the Andes Mountains, about 90 minutes north of Quito.

John Raudenbush (also from Oakwood Baptist Church) and I will fly to Miami, where we will meet up with Pastor Mark Dolan.  Mark is one of the pastors at Acton Baptist Church in Granbury, Texas.  The three of us will be teaching the fifth module in our nine-module training program.

This week, the academic subject matter will be Hermeneutics.  The spiritual discipline on which we focus will be Serving.  In the evenings, we will also provide teaching for the people from Iglesia  Bautista Canaan, our host church.  We will be teaching through the book of Colossians.  We will also have opportunities to preach in the Sunday morning and Tuesday evening services.

Here are some prayer requests for the trip.  Please pray for:

Safe and uneventful travel.  We fly out of Reagan International just afternoon Saturday and connect through Miami.  Our flight to Quito should have us arriving around 9:30 local time (Ecuador is one hour behind Eastern Time).  We then will be picked up and taken to Otavalo.  Our return flights will be Saturday, September 24.  John and I will arrive at Reagan International around midnight.

Teaching the module.  Pray that the teaching is well received and beneficial to the ministries of those in attendance.  Also, pray for the students – for their focus and attention during the sessions as well as their continued commitment to the training.

Our interpreter, Bryan Rubio.  I do not know Bryan; however, I have communicated with him by email.  He attends La Fuente, a church plant in Quito that is led by Steve Youngren.  Steve is a friend of our ministry.

Preaching opportunities.  As I mentioned, we will have two opportunities (Sunday morning and Tuesday evening) to preach at Iglesia Bautista Canaan.

Our Families.  Please pray for Kathy and Amanda (at home), Glenn in Northern Virginia (Generation Joshua), and Josh in Louisville (Boyce College).  Pray for John’s family – his wife Casey and their precious daughter Abigail.  Also, pray for Mark’s family – wife Mona Marie and children Gannon, Lincoln, and Malachi.

Again, thank you for your faithful partnership in praying for this ministry.
