Look At The Book

DG’s LABS – A Survey of Suffering in 1 Peter

Rejoicing in the Refiner’s Fire, Part 1

Dr. John Piper

[From Desiring God] In the first of fourteen sessions on 1 Peter 1–2, John Piper traces the theme of suffering in the letter. Peter is writing to exiles on the earth, helping them endure the darkness and opposition of this world with joy. He also explains the heart and vision behind the method of Look at the Book for studying the Bible.

Look at the Book is John Piper’s latest effort to help teach people to read the Bible for themselves. It’s an ongoing series of 8–12 minute videos in which the camera is on the text, not the teacher.

As part of this initiative, Desiring God is putting on regional events focused on certain passages of Scripture. Below, you can find all the video from our Look at the Book weekend on 1 Peter 1–2.

God makes the objects of the miracle of repentance agents of the miracle of repentance. In Part 1 of this two-part series, John Piper established that it is God who decisively brings repentance for any sinner. Now, he asks what role, if any, we have in bringing about that repentance for others.
